AD CAMPAIGN, 1937



Today, some illustrations from a newspaper ad campaign that ran in the spring of 1937, rendered in high art deco style. The main figure, a caricature capitalist replete with a monocle, top hat and walking stick, is a close cousin of the Monopoly game mascot, Rich Uncle Pennybags (at left).

Why such a figure would convince people to move to Tudor City is unclear, but at least the ads were eye-catching:
