The Servants Await You

Below, an amusing promotional photograph from 1937, taken to illustrate all the services that Tudor City offered its residents. The photo was made at the entrance of No. 5, with various staffers posed as if awaiting a visit from royalty.

From left to right are the gardener, porter, maid, engineer, handyman, bellhop, telephone operator, Western Union messenger, elevator operator, chef, room service waiter, waitress, doorman, policeman, delivery boy, parcel room attendant, valet, taxi dispatcher, and taxi driver, all at one's beck and call. 

Today, the lineup would be much abbreviated since the telephone operator, Western Union messenger, elevator operator, room service waiter, policeman, delivery boy, parcel room attendant, and taxi dispatcher positions have all been retired. That's progress for you!
