Before the Wrecking Ball

Some time ago, we posted about the Tudor City land grab, when Fred French's representatives quietly (and quickly) bought up a series of properties that would be demolished and refashioned into Tudor City.

Once the land was acquired ‒ save for a few hold-out rowhouses ‒ the French Company slapped up signs heralding what was to come, the very first advertising for the enclave. Some examples, below.

North side of 41st Street, future home of the Hotel Tudor and Essex House.

West side of Prospect Place, far-off-in-the-future home of No. 2, Tudor Gardens.

South side of 43rd Street, future home of The Hermitage

South side of 42nd Street, future home of The Woodstock. Church of the Covenant, far right.
